Collecting Minecraft UUIDs
I am autistic and I love data, you probably are autistic and also love data or Minecraft UUIDs. Every Minecraft account has a “UUID” it’s like a unique ID for each account, if you change the name it stays the same, it’s in a hexadecimal format.
The start of a journey
Mojang has ratelimits, really slow, and even IPv4 proxies from proxyscrape like 1000 for 1 day aren’t sufficient, so I turned to https://mowojang.matdoes.dev API. His API/server can handle around 10k requests a second and do batch names over 10 and UUID batches. I started out by running all 1-4 length names combined with a word list and a larger wordlist. 4 length names found 740k~ UUIDs. and then I started on 5 length names and found 2.7m UUIDs. Next I did some more stuff such as wordlist + s on the end, So say “Tables” was a candidate. Next, I tried name combinations which got me 400k~ new UUIDs and then a twitter usernamelist, a dump of names from cornbread2100’s serverscanner which got me 2,085,472 new. So now in total I had around 8,527,226 and I started searching for new ways of obtaining UUIDs. Next I tried username lists from github (only 44k new found) now at this point I was a bit stuck. Until a friend Northernside (https://northernsi.de) provided me with a complete namemc scrape. which contained around 65.8m UUIDs. So I added that to my database and came to around 67,143,018 UUIDs. Now at this point I decided to also add in matdoes.dev’s 65m public UUID list bringing my total to 70,918,321 UUIDs.
Ramping up
After all this I was at 70m. Very good so far. I decided to do a trade with another UUID collector called “Justin” his data brought me 1,994,850 new UUIDS. Then I did all 6 length names and got 786,871 new UUIDs. Now with all this and some extra sources I was at 74,194,653 Minecraft UUIDs. My next big trade was with crafty.gg I gave them around 6m new to their db bringing them to 77m and they gave me around 2.1m new bringing me to 77m UUIDS. Next I did all 7 length names (or 90%) and some word/name lists along with some files of UUIDs I found on discord bringing me to: 77,572,626 UUIDS. Next I made a Minecraft Server Scanner, scanning port 25565 and made it rescan for playernames and UUIDS every 15 minutes, over time it’s given me around 100k~ new but not too much.
Getting to 80m
To get from 77m to 80m was a challenge. At this point I could scan/scrape way faster as Northernside had given me a program made in Rust that uses a subset of IP addresses from the Aisuru/Kimwolf botnet. Using this I could check around 8b names in a day on just 1 server!!! Using this I tried tons of name combinations, I tested name lists from databreaches. I also scraped a tnt tag website https://tnttag.info giving me another 100k~.
Getting to today!
Now I have 3 servers that are powerful and run tons of lists/generations/name combos. I started doing multi billion candidate lists across hours/days. I estimate that all these runs sent over 30,000,000,000 requests to mojang (30 BILLION!). I did more combinations and also did another trade with Justin to get to 84,541,913 UUIDs. Next I contacted someone to get access to Copenheimer. Copenheimer is Minecrafts probably first major server scanner made by The Fifth Column and also has probably the largest database. Out of the 12m accounts from it only 150k UUIDs were new to me. I even tried adding “Mr and Mr_ to every name and that got me around 88k new. Next I did a trade with Yuno (The largest UUID collector who has around 91.2m UUIDS) and he gave me 881k new bringing me to 85.9m. Next I did some wordword combinations and it brought me to 86.1m UUIDS. Then I got 2m new from Yuno bringing me to 88,151,721 and then finally I did a trade with laby.net and it brought me upto a whopping 90,492,212 Minecraft UUIDs in my database.
Where I am at and the future
- Total: 90,492,212 UUIDs
- There is still over 1-2m Minecraft UUIDs I haven’t collected/found out there and that number continues to grow.
- This cost me 2x months of 2 dedicated servers from hetzner and pfcloud. 1 snowcore server, $300 for copenheimer data, $100 for namemc data/proxy script. So around $1000 spent!
Name length distribution
Here is a cute graph of all name length. 8-9 characters long is where most accounts lie.
What will I do with data?
Store it, use it to find new capes on accounts such as mojang staff accounts or new translator/moderator/realms accounts.
